A FUNDRAISING table top sale and raffle helped raise £650 towards the funeral costs of Pedmore mother-of-six Janine Leaf.

The event, which took place at Wollescote’s Beech Tree Miners Club, included a prize tombola, as well as tea, coffee and cake sale.

Janine passed away on August 1 at the age of 35, and her family and friends wanted to give her the best send-off possible by helping her mother Bev Powell raise the £3,000 funeral costs.

Event organiser Kerry Whiteman said: “I have known Bev a long time, probably about 20 years or so, and have known Janine since she was young.

“When I heard about what had happened we were devastated for Bev. She lost her son Liam two-and-a-half years ago, and to then lose Janine – both her two children – is terrible.

“I wanted to do anything I could to help her.

“With everything she has been through, I wanted to be there for her and give her my support, so I thought I would help by trying to raise money for the funeral.”

Part of the money raised by Kerry came from a go fund me page set up by her daughter Megan.

Kerry added: “We are so grateful to everyone who donated money towards Janine’s funeral fund, especially local businesses and the Beech Tree Miners Club whom kindly let me use their premises free of charge.”

Stourbridge businesses which supported the event include The Nail lounge, Crown Butchers, Mike Graham Butchers, Reflect skin and body clinic, My Sisters Closet, Boing Zone, The Green House Florist, John’s Butchers, Mr Brown’s Greens and Karen’s Hair Design in Brierley Hill.
