STOURBRIDGE based specialist tax relief firm HMA Tax was named best new business at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards 2017.

The company, based in Church Street, was set up nearly two years ago by 33-year-old chartered accountant Tom Meredith to help owners of commercial property identify previously unclaimed capital allowances and receive tax refunds.

Managing director Mr Meredith said: “We have an excellent team here at HMA Tax and I am proud that together we are able to offer such an incredibly valuable service to owners of commercial property across the UK.

"We are extremely grateful for this award and delighted to add this to our shelf. We are proud that our customer service record and remarkable 100 per cent approval rate with HMRC was recognised by the judges."

He said competition for the award, sponsored by the University of Wolverhampton, was fierce and he added: "To come out on top of what was a very competitive category is very flattering.

"This award recognises the excellent service we provide to our clients and the exceptional growth we have achieved whilst helping businesses and individuals identify over £60m in allowances."

More than 400 people attended the annual awards ceremony held at Wolverhampton Racecourse on November 17.

Adrian Wright, president of the Chamber, congratulated all of the winners and the sponsors of the awards which celebrate successful Black Country businesses - and he said: “We have some fantastic businesses in the Black Country and we need to help to raise the profile of the great work they do."
