BOOKS are being given a second lease of life after Merry Hill's Early Learning centre launched its annual book amnesty.
Staff at the store are collecting books as part the month amnesty and are encouraging children and parents to hand over books which are gathering dust on their bookshelves.
The books which are handed in will be redistributed and put to good use by kids who need them more.
Book amnesty started on January 4 and will continue to January 31, customers who hand in their old books will get in return a 20 per cent discount voucher to be used in the store throughout February.
Store manager, Karen Taylor said: "This is aimed at recycling books and giving the opportunity for play groups and nurseries who can't replace books themselves.
"So far it is going really well and we have collected 80 books in the first week, it is really popular, the past two years it has been really successful."
The store is hoping to beat the amount of books handed in this year and all 215 stores across the country are involved.
People are advised to bring their old children books into the store situated in on the upper level in the shopping centre or call 01384 481143 for more information.
