Groups urged to try-out for cash

VOLUNTARY groups across the borough which support vulnerable adults in the community are being urged to apply for funding.

A total of £46,200 is up for grabs through the Small Grants Scheme this year and, with the deadline fast approaching, groups are urged to get their applications in as soon as possible.

The Dudley Council scheme is aimed at groups that provide leisure or social activities and are looking to extend their services to include people with disabilities and older people.

The financial support will be made available to cover running costs, buying equipment and training expenses.

Last year 80 organisations benefited from the scheme, with grants ranging from £250 to £1,900 awarded.

The Khushi Womens Happiness Group recieved £350 towards transport, £300 went to Dudley Widows and Friends Circle towards transport and running costs; £1,100 went to the Samaritans for furniture and equipment and £850 was awarded to the Coach House towards running costs.

Councillor Peter Miller, Dudley's cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "We are committed to supporting the invaluable work that voluntary groups and volunteers carry out in Dudley.

"Each year the small grants scheme offers a great way for these groups to access small amounts of money that can make a real big difference.

"This funding could help allow disabled and vulnerable older people to take part in all kinds of activities and I would urge all eligible groups to get their applications in as soon as possible."

The closing date for entries is March 28.

All applications need to meet the criteria outlined in the application pack which can be obtained by ringing 01384 815140 or by visiting www.dudley.gov.uk
