Wordsley thug behind bars

A WORDSLEY man described by a judge as a danger to the public has been jailed for 18 months.

Nathan Williams, aged 31, who launched a vicious, unprovoked attack on a security guard in a pub was further told he should also have to remain on licence for three years after he is allowed back onto the streets.

Before Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday February 1, Williams of High Street, Wordsley admitted wounding Mr Dillon and also stealing a quantity of tools from a parked vehicle in the area.

Judge Michael Challinor said: "You are a danger to the public when you are in drink, It is entirely reasonable to conclude you pose a significant risk of causing serious harm to members of the public."

He said that after drinking heavily Williams attacked Ronald Dillon in the New Inns in High Street, Wordsley and beat him "senseless."

Judge Challinor said: "You badly injured this man and he had to have ten stitches in cuts to his forehead, eye and nose.

"He can remember nothing of what happened because of the ferocity of your attack, The time has come for you to receive an extended sentence."

Sally Hancox prosecuting told the court Williams threw a glass to the floor in the public house and Mr Dillon who was off-duty and enjoying a quiet drink started to picked up the pieces.

Miss Hancox said: "Then, for no apparent reason, Williams launched a vicious attack as he repeatedly punched him about the head."

Williams, the court heard, had a number of previous convictions for offences including affray, possessing an offensive weapon and wounding.

Tim Harrington defending maintained Williams was not prone to violence and added: "His life has been blighted by drug and alcohol abuse."

He said Williams now realised he was "too old for this kind of behaviour" and concluded: "He is determined to change to put his life in order."
