Dangerous dog man behind bars

A LYE man who kept dangerous dogs is behind bars after he ignored a community sentence.

Ibrar Banaras failed to comply with an unpaid work order imposed when he was convicted on four charges of keeping Pit Bull-type dogs.

At Halesowen Magistrates Court on Friday February 8, Banaras, aged 22, of Hill Street, was caged for 18 weeks after he admitted missing work appointments on three occasions in January.

The unpaid work requirement was part of a sentence handed down in November last year after Banaras pleaded guilty to three charges of keeping dangerous dogs.

He was found guilty of a fourth charge of keeping a dangerous dog, during the trial magistrates heard evidence from Metropolitan Police dog expert Pc Peter Talleck, the officer who identified the dog which savaged Liverpool tot Elle Lawrence to death in January 2007.

Following the trail Banaras was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended for two years, ordered to complete 250 hours unpaid community work and pay £1,000 towards the costs of boarding the dogs, which were ordered to be destroyed.

Magistrates told Banaras his non-compliance with the court order justified activating the jail term, although it was reduced by to weeks in recognition of his previously keeping work appointments.
