RECESSION-hit pet owners struggling with animal care costs will be able to get help at an event in Lye.
Margot James, Stourbridge Conservative Party spokesperson is teaming up with the RSPCA to bring help for families on low incomes at a Community Animal Action Day at Lye Town Football Club, Stourbridge Road, between 10am and 3.30pm on Tuesday July 7.
At the event the RSPCA will be offering free micro chipping, there will also be reduced price neutering vouchers for cats, dogs and rabbits plus general pet care advice.
Margot James said: “Pets are among the casualties of the recession as cash-strapped owners struggle to pay for care and veterinary treatment, the animal action day will provide practical help to much loved pets and their owners.”
Micro-chipping allows animals to be identified if they are lost or found dead, chips inserted under animal’s skin and carry owner details which can be read with a handheld scanner.
Margot recently helped persuade Dudley Council to buy a scanner and says micro-chipping can be vital to reunite animals with owners.
She said: “If an animal is lost, or worse killed on the road, a micro chip will enable the owner to be traced so it is essential to have one implanted in dogs and cats.”
