Brierley Hill Bank raid link to Black Country blags

COPS are linking an attempted bank raid in Brierley Hill with a string of similar offences around the Black Country.

The unsuccessful burglary, where blaggers tried and failed to break through a wall, happened on Tuesday November 24 at Barclays Bank on High Street between 8pm and 9.15pm.

West Midlands Police say the raid fits the same pattern as four other burglaries which have taken place since November 14 in Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham.

Lead investigating officer, detective sergeant Dave Hanson, from Bloxwich CID, said: "The striking similarities between these incidents has led to us linking five burglaries and attempted burglaries so far.

"The burglars are using various means in attempts to smash through brick walls at the side or rear of the premises in order to get into the bank.

"The offenders will have made considerable noise when trying to get into the banks and I appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual to come forward.

“We are especially interested in hearing about any vehicles seen acting suspiciously in the area of these banks during closed hours."

On at least two occasions the raiders got away with cash and Barclays, along with Lloyds TSB who have also been targeted, are offering a £25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of offenders.

Anyone with information relating to any of the incidents is urged to contact Bloxwich CID on 01922 439117.
