Stourton fundraiser on the march for funds

A STOURTON fundraiser is planning to march her way to charity cash with a little help from her friends.

Denise Hudson, aged 60, is calling on people to step up for a walk around Bodenham Arboretum, Wolverley, to swell the coffers of the Rainbow Breast Reconstruction group who support women recovering from cancer.

The charity is the only one of its kind in the region and Denise, from Chantry Road, is hoping 300 walkers will join her, and fellow charity worker Debbie Barnett, for the event on Tuesday April 6.

Both women have undergone reconstruction surgery and their experience inspired them to form the Dudley-based Rainbow group which has already donated thousands of pounds to the breast cancer unit at Russells Hall Hospital.

Denise said: “Many families are touched by cancer and people tell me they have personal reasons for doing the walk.

“When people who have been through cancer get together there is a big connection, everybody has their story to tell.”

The walk will follow in the footsteps of a similar event last year which Denise says was an emotional day for her.

Denise said: “It was fantastic, a celebration day, last year was the first one and the community spirit was amazing.

“I was quite tearful as they were going round the arboretum while the steel band was playing Over The Rainbow.”

The Rainbow group has hosted a series of successful fundraising events and their work has been recognised with a nomination for Denise and Debbie for a Dudley Mayor’s Civic Award.

For more information on how to take part in the walk at Bodenham Arboretum, call Denise on 01384 393077 or Debbie on 01384 835456.
