AN annual Wall Heath charity football match will have extra significance this year after a club stalwart was diagnosed with cancer.

Kewford Eagles annual chairman's charity match between the 11-a-side managers and parents and the mini soccer managers and parents will kick off at 11am on Saturday December 31 at the Scout Ground in Swindon Road.

Club chairman Keith Marks, said: “All proceeds this year will go to a charity very close to our hearts, The Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital. Sadly one of our ex-Committee members and Manager, Max Edwards, has recently been diagnosed with bowl and secondary liver cancer.

Lynn Boleyn, club welfare officer said: “Most children in our club will know Max as he coached many of them when they joined the club’s feeder group at age five."

Entrance for spectators is free, donations can be posted to the club chairman at 16 Millers Green Drive, Wall Heath – cheques should be made payable to The Georgina Unit.
