GREASE is the word at Merry Hill which will be showing the much-loved movie at a one-off drive-in event later this month.

The classic musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, set in 1950s American high school Rydell High, will be shown on a big screen on the P2 car park outside Debenhams on Thursday May 31.

Moviegoers are invited to don leather jackets and poodle skirts for the screening which will begin promptly at 9pm.

Kelly Reed, marketing manager at Merry Hill, said: “The 1950s were all about full skirts, drive-in movies, being care free and having fun.

“We wanted our drive-in event to offer our shoppers the chance to journey back to a simpler time and treat their families to a unique night out. We can’t wait to see everyone having a blast and singing along to all the Grease classics.”

The drive-in event is part of the shopping centre’s Make a Date campaign which includes a host of activities and special offers for families, couples and friends.

To gain entry and free popcorn to the retro night out, film fans can buy a programme at the concierge desk at Merry Hill Shopping Centre for £12 from May 5.

The gates open at 7pm on May 31.

Proceeds from the event will go to Merry Hill’s charity for the year - Rollercoasters - which provides opportunities for 40 borough youngsters with multiple physical and learning disabilities, sensory impairments and degenerative or life-threatening conditions to have fun and make friends.
