WALKERS from across the borough have been celebrating completing the healthy towns Walk to Wimbledon challenge.

More than 500 people took part in the event, which invited participants to walk the 134-mile distance from Dudley to Wimbledon.

Anyone who completes the free challenge before the end of June will be entered into a prize draw to win a 12-month fitness membership at Dudley Council's leisure centres.

They will also receive their very own healthy towns rosette.

Attending any of the borough’s healthy towns and Walk Fit fitness sessions, walking to school, work or college, dancing at a party and skipping at one of the council’s healthy hubs have been counted.

Taking part in a Nordic walking session, strolling around a park or going running outdoors or on a treadmill also counts.

Councillor Tracy Wood, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: ”Our residents are offered lots of great ways to get active across the borough while having fun and the Walk to Wimbledon challenge has been very popular.

”I would like to thank and congratulate anyone who has completed it and I’m sure they will be coming forward to join in with future fitness initiatives.”
