A PAIR of Stourbridge craftsmen are teaming up for a world record bid to mark a major international event.

During the region's International Festival of Glass, Allister Malcolm and fellow glass artist Elliot Walker will be competing to scoop the record for the world’s longest glass blowing demonstration.

The 24-hour showdown will get under way at Broadfield House Glass Museum, Kingswinford, and the Red House Glass Cone, Wordsley, at 11am on Sunday August 26.

Both artists are currently looking for sponsors for each hour they complete to raise cash for the British Glass Foundation, which works to preserve the UK's glass heritage, especially the Stourbridge collection.

Allister Malcolm is the resident glass artist based at Broadfield House Glass Museum and specialises in handmade glassware of original design while Elliot Walker is currently studying for a Master's degree in applied arts and demonstrates his skills at the Red House Cone.

During the marathon demonstration a variety of other leading glass artists will be making guest appearances to help produce unique pieces to be auctioned also to support the foundation.

The biannual festival will take place at a variety of venues in Stourbridge from August 24 to 27, for more information visit www.ifg.org.uk, for details on how to sponsor the artists taking part in the world record bid visit the blog section at www.britishglassfoundation.org.uk
