Dudley mayor marks completion of new council homes

THE Mayor of Dudley has been helping council tenants celebrate the completion of a multi-million pound housing project.
Earlier this year, Dudley Council finished building 72 new council homes and tenants have been moving into these properties and making them home.
To mark the end of the project, the council’s three main contractors, Lovell, Mansell and FHM organised a joint celebration event at The Wickets, a new 22 property development off Norwood Road, Brierley Hill.
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: “It has been more than 20 years since the council was in a position to build new council homes. I hope these new homes are the catalyst for future housing developments that will benefit the people of Dudley borough.”
The council received £4.3 million from the Homes and Communities Agency in 2010 to kick-start the project.
The new homes, including apartments, bungalows and houses were built across five schemes in Brierley Hill, Lower Gornal, Upper Gornal, Quarry Bank and Wordsley.
