A BRIERLEY Hill teenager has become the first female boxer to sign up for Stourbridge College's boxing academy.

Gemma Small, aged 16, is set to start a diploma in sport course at the college while working on her passion for pugilism at the college's academy partner, The Lions Amateur Boxing Club, Bull Street, Brieley Hill.

Stella Raphael-Reeves, director at Stourbridge College’s Centre of Sporting Excellence, said: “Our partnership with The Lions Amateur Boxing Club means that our students benefit from the expertise provided by an Olympic boxing coach while they have a go at getting a recognised qualification.”

Bob Dillon, owner of the Lions Amateur Boxing Club,  and Team GB and international podium coach, said: “Students benefit not only from the team’s expertise but our club is equipped with great facilities for them to perfect their boxing skills while they continue with their education.”
