BREASTFEEDING mums turned out in force in Brierley Hill this morning (Friday August 4) as part of a Global Big Latch On event to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

A total of 55 mums descended on The Dell Stadium in Bryce Road for the synchronised breastfeeding event, between 10am and 11am, which aimed to bring breastfeeding mums and their young together in multiple locations across the world.

The first ever event was held in New Zealand in 2005 and has since taken off globally.

The aim this time was to break the current Global Big Latch On record and get 17,992 children breastfeeding across the world during the count time period and 17,852 breastfeeding women attending as part of efforts to highlight the benefits to children that breastfeeding brings.

Brianna Dymond, organisational development worker for Dudley Breastfeeding Buddies, said the Brierley Hill event attracted “55 breastfeeding women, 59 breastfeeding children plus supporting family and older children – with many local businesses providing donations and gifts”.
