MORE than 250 Stourbridge students and their parents had chance to network with leading businesses when the town’s MP Margot James hosted another careers day.

The event at Amblecote’s Glasshouse Arts Centre - the third in Margot’s Raising Aspirations Programme - showcased career options from sectors such as banking, retail, IT, engineering, accountancy and public services.

School students also took part in interviewing and CV-writing workshops and were able to gain top careers advice from companies including Microsoft and HSBC as well as the Royal Air Force and the NHS.

Margot said: “I was very pleased to host the Stourbridge Careers Day and welcome so many local students and parents to the event.

“It was great to see young people engaging with top businesses and really focusing on their future, something that is very important to encourage at an early age.

“I would like to thank all of the companies who made the event possible and the schools and colleges who have lent their support to our Raising Aspirations programme.”

Stewart Towe CBE, group managing director of Hadley Industries Holdings Ltd and chairman of the Black Country LEP, also spoke at the October 10 event to encourage youngsters to aim high.

He said: “As an employer it was great to see a large number of dynamic students clearly keen on finding the right career.

“Their aspirations are clear, as businesses we must set out to meet them.”
