PEOPLE who like to be prepared for all eventualities are being given the chance to carve their own gravestone by a Brierley Hill sculptor.

Philip Potter, who has a studio at the Ruskin Glass Centre in Amblecote, has been tutoring people in the art of stone carving for the past 18 months but after getting caught up in the Halloween spirit, he has now decided to help people write their own epitaph.

Mr Potter, who has a small supply of limestone gravestones, said it would take around 10 working days to complete and prices would start from £500.

He added: “It’s ideal for people who don’t like the idea of leaving it up to relatives, they can write their own thing. They would get 10 full days of carving tuition and I wouldn’t let any of them be finished without being presentable, I’ll be giving support along the way.

“The reaction has been positive so far, although I did have a lady come the other day who wanted to know it it was for real or not and found it quite amusing.”
