ANTIQUES Roadshow star Will Farmer will be offering free valuations at Amblecote’s Ruskin Glass Centre later this month.

Mr Farmer, a regular on the popular BBC show and a director at Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge, will be giving his expert opinion free of charge on treasures taken along to the centre on Saturday January 25 between 10am and 2pm.

Ian Dury of Stourbridge Glass Engravers, has organised the event as a way of documenting glass pieces of historical interest that people may have stored away.

He said: “We’re trying to keep records of old glass items and collections that people have got in their cupboards. Will Farmer will be on hand to give a valuation but it’s not so much about the value of items as the historical value.”

Mr Dury, who has taken on the role of glass heritage officer at the Wollaston Road arts centre, said the event had been inspired by the discovery in Stourbridge of a "brilliant" collection of rare glassware by former Webb Corbett engraver and director William Kny - son of original Bohemian glass engraver Fredrick Ludwig Kny who settled in Stourbridge in the 1850s.

Mr Dury now hopes to find out if there are other collections of historical interest hoarded away in homes and is inviting people across the town to turn up on the day with any family heirlooms or glass items that may be of note so they can be valued and documented by historians.
