A HARDY band of Amblecote supermarket workers will be striding out on a 14 mile sponsored walk across the Malvern Hills for The Paul Ackrill Fund.

Ten staff members from Sainsbury’s Amblecote will raise funds for their charity partner on Sunday (September 20).

The group of walkers have been busy gaining sponsorship from their colleagues and family members, who will be there to cheer them on along the way.

More than £1,200 has been raised for the charity – which provides grants for young people under 30, from the West Midlands, who have been diagnosed with cancer – following a successful launch weekend in July.

The store will be organising future fundraising activities for the charity, including a company charity night which is planned for October.

Sainsbury’s staff at Merry Hill have also been getting into the fundraising spirit by collecting money for children with half a heart.

About £250 has been raised for Little Hearts Matter during a ‘mummy morning’, which takes place every Tuesday from 10am at the Merry Hill Centre.

Little Hearts Matter support children – and their families – diagnosed with half a heart and help to ensure they are able to live an active and happy life for as long as possible.

Yvonne Artiss, PR ambassador, said: “We chose to donate to Little Hearts Matter as the grandson of one of our colleagues has been affected by the condition and was treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“We use the money raised from mummy mornings each week to benefit local charities and charities that are close to a colleague or customers’ heart.”

Mummy mornings have also raised money to fund a new 32 inch television for Mary Stevens Hospice.
