AMY Davis can't wait for February to arrive after receiving a lifesaving operation.

The 22-year-old from Amblecote plans to resume her nursing course at Worcester University next month after undergoing a liver transplant.

It's just over 12 months ago that Lyndale Crescent resident Amy received her transplant after being diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in the summer of 2014.

But Amy wasn't out of the woods after the transplant. She became extremely ill with Ulcerative Colitis and at one point was in danger of having her colon removed.

Thankfully, staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham came up with the idea of an infusion called vedolizumab.

Amy was the first patient at the QE to receive this drug, which seems to have done the trick.

She said: "I'm well on the road to recovery. But if it wasn't for the QE, I wouldn't be here today!”

Although Amy still requires infusions for the Colitis, the thought of returning to her nursing course is spurring her one.

Amy revealed: "It's a three year course and I've only got half a year to go. I would love to, one day, be a staff nurse on the liver ward at the QE. I'd like to give back, what they have given to me."

Unbeknown to Amy, her boyfriend Jack Devonport, who lives in Kingswinford, took it upon himself to secretly cook and sell mini Christmas puddings to family and friends over the festive period.

He managed to raise £645.40 which they have now presented to Amy's surgeon Thamara Perera at the QE.

But they don't intend to stop there.

Amy's dad Nigel Davis is planning a sponsored parachute jump in June, and both Amy and Jack plan to keep making the Christmas puddings.

She added: "We did so well, we are going to make it an annual event.

"No one in our family ever thought anything like this would happen - but it can happen to anyone. We want to raise awareness and funds for the Liver Foundation UK. It's our way of saying thank you."
