A FUN-filled day of St George’s Day celebrations are set to be held at an Amblecote pub next weekend.

Among the entertainment at The Glassworks on Saturday, April 23, will be a George Fornby tribute, a special guest appearance from George Pig and big sister Peppa and a George-themed record attempt.

The Audnam Road pub will join forces with 12 other ‘Generous George’ branches across the country to set a chain record for the largest gathering of people named George at one time.

Alan Kipps, manager, said: “We’re really excited about celebrating St George’s Day and we’re hoping for a great turnout.

“Obviously, we want as many Georges, Georgies, Georginas, Georgias and Mr and Mrs Georges to join us on the day to stand up and be counted as part of our record attempt, but we’ve got a fun-packed day planned.”

There will also be a free drink available for all George’s, as well as children’s activities including a best dressed St George and Princess competition, colouring competition, pin the tail on the dragon, face painting and balloon modelling.

The pub, whose entertainment will begin at noon and go on until late, will also host a St George’s Quiz Night while raising money for their supported local charities.

Alan added: “We’re determined to make sure that April 23 is a day not to be missed.

“We’re hoping to welcome men, women, girls and boys of all ages and with every possible version of the name George along to help us set our record, and that they’ll get into the spirit of the celebrations by wearing fancy dress and joining in with the fun we’ve got planned.”
