OFFICERS have been trawling through CCTV and are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in an attack outside a Stourbridge pub.

The 23-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted outside the Glassworks pub in Camp Hill, at Audnam, in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 17).

Police say he was hit repeatedly during the attack by two offenders who threw a cigarette machine at him. He was taken to hospital and treated for gashes to his head - but he was released later that morning.

Two women in their 20s also suffered minor injuries during the incident, which happened at around 1am.

All three victims are staff members at the pub and the attack, which happened as they left the premises, is believed to have been part of a robbery.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “The two offenders - dressed in dark clothing - fled the pub with a sum of cash.”

Officers have been carrying out house to house enquiries and trawling through CCTV footage as well as working with the pub company as part of their investigation, she added.

Initial calls to the ambulance service indicated the man had suffered stab wounds and police said the injuries suggested some form of “bladed weapon” was involved but officers were still in the process of taking official statements today (Monday).

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said its crews were alerted at 1.19am by West Midlands Police and they “treated a man for injuries to his head and face and transported him to hospital”.

A spokesman for Marstons pub company, which owns the Glassworks, said: “We’re working with police to help their enquiries and the staff members are recovering.”

He said the pub remained open for business.

Witnesses are urged to contact Sergeant Kerrie Scriven at Dudley Police Station on the 101 non-emergency number.
