AN ‘inadequate’ Amblecote GP surgery will remain in special measures after not making “sufficient” improvements during a recent follow-up inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Quincy Rise Surgery, in Sandringham Way, in March and April this year, before giving the surgery an overall rating of ‘inadequate’.

Following the inspections, a warning notice was received by the practice informing that they were required to become compliant with the HSCA’s safe care and treatment regulations by July 17.

The surgery was inspected again on July 18, and in the inspection report, which was published this week, Professor Steve Field, the CQC’s chief inspector of general practice, said: “The practice had made improvements in a number of areas by developing practice specific policies and ensuring key processes were embedded in the practice.

“Safety alerts were disseminated by the practice manager and records were kept to demonstrate action taken.

“Staff worked with multidisciplinary teams to understand and meet the range and complexity of patients’ needs.

“However, we found that although some improvements had been made, improvements were not sufficient enough to ensure patients were receiving medication reviews in line with care and treatment requirements.

“Therefore the practice has not fully met the requirements of the warning notice.”

The surgery will undergo a full inspection later in the year, with Caroline Brunt, chief nurse at Dudley CCG, confident that the required improvements can be achieved.

She said: “The CCG have provided both clinical and managerial mentorship to the team and this will be on-going. Significant progress has been made and the surgery and CCG are committed to continuing their work together.

“Given the feedback after the recent CQC follow-up visit we are confident that the required improvements can be achieved before the next full inspection at which point we are optimistic the rating of the surgery will improve.

“If however the required improvements are not achieved, the surgery will be subject to further action from the CQC and the CCG.”
