A LOOK back at the history of Stourbridge’s glass industry is set to be explored in an upcoming Amblecote talk.

Ian Dury, recently retired from the Glass Heritage Office at Ruskin, will be the guest speaker Amblecote History Society’s meeting tonight (Wednesday, May 10) with his talk entitled ‘A 400 year journey through the Stourbridge Glass Industry’.

Later this year Ian, who is now employed as glass consultant to the Webb Corbett Visitor Centre, will celebrate his 50th year of working in the industry.

His talk will enlighten visitors with interesting facts that have been revealed during his four years as heritage officer, following the route of the Stourbridge Canal and the various glass companies that existed along the canal banks.

The talk will also delve into details of glassmaking as well as the social history that gave pride to the families of the glassmakers.

Meeting tonight in The Lehr Theatre at the Ruskin Glass Centre, the group’s talk begins at 7.30pm with an admission charge of £2 for non-members.
