SHOPPERS in Amblecote are being asked to nominate local charities to benefit from a supermarket giant’s cash.

Sainsbury’s ‘Local Charity of the Year’ scheme is back for the ninth year and the supermarket’s Sandringham Way store is calling for local groups in need to be its flagship cause for the next 12 months.

At the end of this month, the store will shortlist three charities for customers to vote for and the winning cause will then receive a year of fundraising and awareness support.

Charities can apply by collecting a form from the store before nominations close on Sunday (May 28). Customers will then be able to vote on the shortlisted causes between June 12 and 25 both in store and online.

Kevin Healy, store manager, said: “There are so many fantastic charities in the local area which do brilliant work in our community.

“We’ve had a great year working in partnership with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and we’re excited to be offering a new charity the chance to receive support from our customers and colleagues.”

The scheme, which has raised more than £13 million for thousands of charities across the UK since its launch in 2009, is open to any UK registered charity.
