VOTING is set to close tomorrow (Sunday, June 25) as a Black Country supermarket searches for its charity partner for the next 12 months.

Three Dudley borough charities are in the running to be chosen as Sainsbury’s Amblecote’s ‘Local Charity of the Year’ – a campaign which returns for the ninth year.

The winning cause will receive a year of support from the Sandringham Way store, which includes fundraising and awareness promotion.

The charities shortlisted are:

  • Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. The charity trains hearing dogs who change the lives of deaf adults and children across the UK, by alerting deaf people to everyday sounds they would otherwise miss – simple sounds that many people take for granted.
  • Friends of Sycamore Adventure. The group raise funds for Sycamore Adventure playground in Dudley, which provides a wide range of varied and specialist play opportunities, for children and young people from across the borough.
  • Dudley and District Group of the Multiple Sclerosis Society UK. The cause helps people living with Multiple Sclerosis and their carers through personalised, emotional, practical and financial support.

Voting runs until tomorrow and customers can elect their favourite charity at the in-store voting unit, or online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk.

Kevin Healy, store manager, said: “We’ve shortlisted some great charities this year, which do brilliant work in our community. It’s really important that our customers have a say in the charities we work with, so we’d urge everyone to vote in store or online.”

Staff will announce the winning charity in July.
