Amblecote History Society thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful day at a picnic in the magnificent grounds of the Chateau Impney to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Corbett. A large attendance enjoyed the many display stands and musical entertainment provided free of charge onsite whilst they participated in traditional picnics, creating a noticeable ‘good mood’ atmosphere.

The Amblecote History Society display stand, comprising of a collection of quality photographic material and historical narrative about the life and times of John Corbett in Amblecote and the surrounding area was designed and produced after much effort, research and presentation by Helen Cook. It not only looked magnificent but contained plentiful, interesting historical information which attracted a lot of attention with many positive comments from the general public and indeed from Corbett family relatives themselves, some who had flown in from the USA specially to attend the event.

The birthday anniversary was also marked at mid-day by a synchronized “peal of bells” from Amblecote Holy Trinity and Saint Michael’s Brierley Hill with local churches in the Droitwich area.

The “Salt King 200" project was the biggest the society has been involved in and ultimately proved to be most enjoyable, memorable, wholly successful and a justified testimony to this local man who did so much in our area to benefit the community.

For more information about the society visit the new Facebook account where the full reports of previous meetings are also stored under the Files Tab. It is also a good channel for you to share your knowledge of Amblecote people, places, experiences and local history.
