Amblecote History Society

At the January meeting members and visitors watched with great anticipation as Richard Wescott transformed himself from a well - presented Gentleman in a suit into a Pantomime dame. He explained the way he completed the different stages of facial make-up he used to give the colourful appearance of a Pantomime Dame. Giving an interesting account of the years he spent playing this part, he completed his transformation with different sequinned costumes, high heeled shoes, brightly coloured necklaces, earrings and large wigs. His talk was very interesting and entertaining with plenty of jokes and interaction with the audience who joined in whole - heartedly.

The next meeting will be held on February 14 at 7.30pm in The Furnace Theatre at the Ruskin Glasshouse Arts Centre. Wollaston Road, Amblecote, Stourbridge DY8 4HF. When Stourbridge professional artist Geoff Tristram will give a humorous talk titled ‘40 years watching paint dry’. Geoff tells his story from a scatter-brained ten-year-old with a colour biro, to the mature professional artist and occasional comedy writer that he is today. His presentation shows work for Penguin Books, Embassy World Snooker, the BBC and his famous Ravensburger Jigsaws. With many amusing anecdotes.

Visitors are most welcome at a small entrance fee of £3.

The group has a new web site www.amblecote.org for more information about the society.
