YOUNGSTERS in year 11 are invited to try out to become police cadets.

WEST Mercia Police Cadets are recruiting for their September intake and looking to take on 14 new cadets for the north Worcestershire policing area - which covers Clent, Belbroughton and Hagley.

Teenagers interested in policing and community work are invited to apply to join the unit which meets every Thursday night at Redditch Police Station.

Cadets take part in activities including self-defence training, marching, fitness, role-playing, team building and outward bounds weekends as well as gaining an insight into police life through talks featuring guest speakers and by taking part in community policing events.

They will also have chance to gain a leadership and team skills qualification through the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Applicants will be required to attend a formal interview and take part of the Police Initial Recruitment Test.

A nyone interested in applying can visit the force’s website www.westmercia.police.uk/policecadets/ for more details and an application form.

The deadline for applications is April 6.
