BELBROUGHTON hairdresser turned councillor Janice Boswell has again proved she’s a cut above after being made Bromsgrove District Council’s new civic head.

Cllr Boswell, who has served as a district councillor for the Furlongs ward (Clent, Belbroughton and Hagley) since 2000, was officially voted into her new role at the council’s annual general meeting last Thursday (May 16).

The 69-year-old Conservative councillor, from Stoneybridge, has served as deputy to Caroline Spencer, the authority’s civic head for 2011/12, for the last 12 months.

Before a restructuring of the council - cllr Boswell also served as the authority’s chairman back in 2007/8, raising thousands of pounds for Bromsgrove’s Primrose Hospice and Dogs for the Disabled.

This time round she will again be supporting Primrose Hospice together the Stroke Association’s Life After Stroke Centre and Birmingham’s Edward’s Trust which helps children and families during times of serious illness or bereavement.

Cllr Boswell said she was looking forward to supporting the charities through fundraising efforts over the next 12 months.

And she said of her new role: “It is both an honour and privilege to represent the people of Bromsgrove.”

The role of the council’s first citizen includes managing the council’s civic hospitality budget and planning the annual civic dinner.
