Speaker Anja Potze provided a fascinating insight into the development of diamonds from insignificant pieces of rock to items of great beauty and value in jewellery.

Anja explained the ways in which experts cut and graded the gems.

Initially destined to read economics in her Dutch homeland, she described how through a series of events and opportunities she was able to pursue her first love of jewellery and establish her own business based in Worcester.

The talk was followed by a sketch written by June and Doreen featuring a ‘village shop’. June and Doreen never to fail to entertain with their quick wit and wry observations.

Members were reminded that orders for calendars and diaries were being taken.

Jan Cook was thanked for hosting the strawberry tea which raised £122.39. Cash raised from the rescheduled bring and buy sale would be added to the total.

June Gordon reported that plans for the trip to Weston on August 27 were progressing well.

Christine Rostron has undertaken to explore the WI Moodle, an exclusive WI website. She will report to the committee with her findings.

Ann Lowe is organising a concert starring Julian Smith, a star of Britain's Got Talent. This will take place on Friday, September 27 in Blakedown Parish Rooms.

The proceeds will be divided between Mary Stevens Hospice and Blakedown Parish Church.

The evening concluded with the Denman Draw. Judy Troman's name will be forwarded to County and entered for the draw to be made at the Annual Council Meeting in October.
