Members enjoyed a wet but enjoyable strawberry tea at Jan Cook’s home last month.

The planned bring and buy was rained off, but subsequently held at the latest meeting. The two events raised a respectable profit of £142.89 for the WI. Another bring and buy is planned for the September meeting, this time with a Christmas theme.

President Doreen Chatwin thanked Jackie Burrow for the very pretty home-grown sweet pea arrangement at the August meeting.

Due to the busy nature of the meeting, the president dispensed with reading out the minutes of the last meeting, and the members set to with needle and thread to make patchwork quilt squares.

Thanks to Jan Cook’s preparation, every member was provided with materials and instructions. Peace reigned as everyone concentrated on the task.

It is the intention that the squares be sewn together by Margaret Dams to form a runner for the president’s table – a little bit of every member for the future of the WI.

Members had been asked to bring any craft items they had made, to be displayed during the evening. There was a wealth of talent demonstrated by the huge number and variety of items – patchwork, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, painting and many other skills. Members rightly felt proud of themselves.
