President Doreen Chatwin welcomed everyone to the members’ evening and thanked Kath Edwards for her very pretty flower arrangement.

The trip to Cardiff had been very successful and even the weather had co-operated. Members have been invited to a WI group meeting.

In October, a theatre visit is planned, details of which are available from Catherine Clark.

Several members had volunteered to take an active part in presenting the meeting.

It began with a beautiful flower arrangement by Joan Peck. She used lovely apricot roses and as usual made it all look so effortless. Kath Edwards followed with a talk about her crochet work, offering to give a master class to anyone wanting to learn this skill.

Kath produces colourful soft blankets which during the course of the year she donates to various charities.

Margaret Dams then ‘Gloved up’ as she introduced members to the art of cup cake decoration.

Members watched intrigued as she piped two shades of butter cream at the same time. A variety of cakes were produced, spiders, Christmas puddings and hearts.

June Homer revealed the art of origami. She demonstrated the creation of a butterfly and it was as well we were all attentive as she then produced individual packs so that each member could make a similar creation. The results were excellent. Kath Lahive had been to Denman College and had undertaken a course entitled ‘marbling on silk’.

She explained the process and then displayed exquisite samples of her work, encouraging everyone to visit Denman. The evening concluded with a pub quiz compiled by Doreen.

In October, the WI celebrates its birthday with a meal at Blakedown Golf Club.
