A BRIERLEY Hill man who broke his partner’s wrist when he pushed her downstairs after an argument has been allowed to keep his freedom after a court was told she still loved him.

After the victim plunged down the stairs Simon Hardwick threw various household items at her as she lay in pain on the floor causing severe bruising.

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said Hardwick had pulled the woman around the house by her arms and clothing before she went down the stairs Hardwick, of Albert Road, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was given an eight-month jail term suspended for two years.

The 50-year-old was further placed on Supervision for two years with a condition he attends the Domestic Abuse Programme.

Recorder Marcus Tregilgas-Davey told him: “It matters not why the argument erupted but you broke her right wrist.

“Then, to your shame, you threw items at her as she was lying in pain. This was a sustained piece of aggression against somebody entitled to feel safe in her own home.”

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that after the incident the victim told police she still loved Hardwick - her partner for seven years and friend for 20 years.

Satvir Aujla, defending, said Hardwick - who had been cautioned in 2010 for battering the victim - was full of remorse for his actions.
