A FUN filled day was had at Dudley borough’s Sainsbury’s stores last week as staff and customers celebrated Red Nose Day – raising more than £7,000.

Students from both Withymoor and Brierley Hill primary schools had customers laughing down the aisles of Sainsbury’s Amblecote, in Sandringham Way, on Friday (March 13) with jokes they tannoyed across the store.

Colleagues also got into the spirit of Comic Relief, by making a donation to wear face paints as well as big pants and silly socks for the day.

Customers also took part in a bring-and-buy sale in the store’s foyer and an exercise bike challenge, adding £365 to the funds, bringing the store's fundraising total for the charity to £2,721.

Amblecote Store Manager, Andy Beardmore, said: “We would like to thank all our customers and colleagues, who have helped us raise this fabulous amount for Red Nose Day and all the pupils from Withymoor and Brierley Hill Primary schools, who helped put a smile on everyone's face with their fabulous jokes.

“These funds will help transform the lives of the poorest and most disadvantaged people here in the UK and across Africa.”

Sainsbury’s staff at the Merry Hill Centre also raised funds through a raffle and a Red Nose Day Bake-Off competition.

A VIP appearance by Peppa Pig on Friday, raised an additional £400, bringing in the store’s total to £4,400.

Yvonne Artiss, PR Ambassador for the Merry Hill store, said: “I'm so pleased the Merry Hill store is top of the region for Red Nose Day fundraising.

“Thank you to all our generous customers who have helped us achieve this amazing amount, helping many worthy causes.”
