A BRIERLEY Hill police officer will be lining up alongside 30,000 people at this year’s London Marathon.

Johnny Norgrove will be running in the annual 26.2 mile road race around the capital in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 46-year-old, who has never run a marathon before, said his year’s working with the police has not helped him in his preparation for the mammoth run.

He said: “I have never done a marathon before but it’s a challenge I’ve always wanted to do.

“I also have a few friends who suffer from cancer so I thought it would be the best way to complete a big challenge while supporting Macmillan.

“I have run a few half marathons in the past but this will be my first full marathon and I’m dreading it to be honest.

“I don’t think my work will be much of a help to me but I have been out running quite a lot and have got up to 22 miles.

“But I recently pulled a muscle in my leg which has stopped my training slightly and I also have four young kids so finding the time to train can be a challenge.”

Johnny has set a fundraising target of £750 for the charity, which provides care services for people with cancer, and is on his way to reaching the target as he has already collected more than £500.
