BODYBUILDERS from across the Black Country and beyond turned out in force to flex their muscles in Brierley Hill at the weekend.

Brierley Hill Civic Hall in Bank Street hosted the NABBA Midlands show and International Pro-Am Oscar Awards on Sunday April 26.

Show organiser and contest judge Jim Charles said more competitors than ever took part in this year's show, which attracted more than 100 musclemen and fitness girls.

He said the show kicked off an hour earlier to cope with the extra entries and added: "It was absolutely rammed."

Dudley's Robbie Taylor, who trains at Jim's Gym in Lye, was among the Black Country musclemen competing in the event - which attracted some of the biggest names in UK bodybuilding.

The 21-year-old from Russells Hall, who was competing for the first time, narrowly missed out on first place in the junior musclemen category, losing out by just one point to Feyi Oeybode from Selly Oak.

But as a worthy runner up he earned himself a place in the NABBA Britain final - taking place in Southport on Sunday June 7.

Jim, chairman of NABBA, said: "Robbie was that good he goes through as well - it's not only based on where the competitors placed but whether they're good enough to go through to the Britain event.

"He's done fantastic really when you consider it's his first contest. He's in with a good chance of success in the Britain event."
