A TEAM of Brierley Hill firefighters are heading to Germany on Sunday (June 7), to take part in an international extrication challenge.

Representing West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS), the team of six crew members will face off against fellow fire services after winning a recent road traffic collision skills challenge at Walsall Fire Station.

On Monday morning, June 8, they will compete in the Holmatro Rescue Experience, being staged as part of a rescue exhibition near Hannover.

Watch Commander Dan Evans, a lead RTC instructor with WMFS and one of the team’s support crew for the Germany trip, said: “We’re really looking forward to flying the flag for West Midlands Fire Service.

“Events like these are a great way to hone and showcase the skills that firefighters use on a daily basis to help people involved in collisions.

“Some of the team have been competing for 15 years, and have represented WMFS nationally.

“We’re all wishing them the very best of luck.”

About 30 teams from around the world are taking part, with thousands of pounds worth of specialist rescue cutting equipment up for grabs.

The Brierley Hill team comprises of Crew Commander Andy Papworth and Firefighters Howard Rogers, Adam Tims, Dick Windsor, Chris Phillips and Kate Jones.

Their attempt will be streamed live via the internet on Monday at 10.30am local time, or 11.30 BST, at live.holmatro.com
