A BRIERLEY Hill man who shattered £200 worth of windows at a Kingswinford nightspot has been locked up for six weeks - after squandering the chance of keeping his freedom.

John Williams had been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community for throwing bricks through three windows at the Kingfisher Country Club after being ejected for being drunk and aggressive.

When the 22-year-old breached the order for the first time he was told by a court that he must carry out a further 20 hours work in the area.

But when he committed a second breach, Recorder Barry Berlin ruled he had been given enough chances and he decided he had to go into custody.

Mr Berlin told Wolverhampton Crown Court: “The message has to go out that persistent breaches will be punished.

“You have been given several chances. There is no excuse for what you did.”

He described Williams’ initial window smashing as “loutish” behaviour, adding: “There is now only one place you can go for this latest breach.”

The court was told Williams, of Fens Crescent, still had just over 80 hours of unpaid work to carry out from the order, having completed around 68 hours work.

He had already admitted criminal damage and when he returned to the Crown Court he admitted two further breaches of his community order having failed to keep appointments with the probation service.

Sunit Sandhu, defending, said Williams had been working seven days a week when he committed the breaches but - if given a further chance - he was now in a position to complete his unpaid work.
