MORE than £2,000 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society at a charity football match and family fun day at Stourbridge FC.

A match between Brierley Hill law firm Higgs & Sons and a team of Wolverhampton Wanderers All Stars was the main attraction of the day.

Hundreds of people gathered at the War Memorial ground to enjoy the various activities on offer and watch the match, in which the Higgs players had bid to win a place against the former Wolves men.

The Higgs team put up a spirited performance but were narrowly beaten by the All Stars 2-1. Following the match Wolves legend and manager of the All Stars, Mel Eves, thanked everyone for their very vocal support and congratulated the Higgs’ players on their valiant effort.

The event saw a wide selection of stalls, items to purchase and activities on offer to keep everyone entertained, with particular favourites being the bouncy slide and zorbing, as well as the opportunity to handle giant snakes and tarantulas.

Sarah Bryan, firm trainee, said she was delighted at how smoothly the afternoon went, adding: “The second year trainees did a brilliant job of organising the event. Many thanks to them and all of the attendees for helping to raise so much money.”

Tim Jones, head of the company’s community matters programme, said: “Thanks to the hard work and endeavours of our trainees this year’s family fun day was another great success.

“The weather was kind and the children busied themselves zorbing and handling the snakes and spiders in animal corner – even the Higgs team were unlucky to lose the match after putting up a spirited performance.

“The day raised over £2,000 which brings the total raised for the Alzheimer’s Society to £8,000, with more events still to come.

“Well done and thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success.”
