DUDLEY South MP Mike Wood is to hold his very own EU referendum this weekend to test public opinion on whether Britain should leave or remain in the European Union.

Mr Wood will be holding street stalls to seek people's views on the issue and will be giving out ballot papers, asking residents to vote Leave or Remain as they would when the real EU Referendum takes place.

He said: "This will be an opportunity for constituents to give their views on whether we should remain or vote to leave the EU whenever the referendum is held.

“Whatever one's political view point or opinion - David Cameron and the Conservative Party gave a commitment at the General Election to hold an in/out referendum.

"We are delivering on that promise and it doesn’t matter what the politicians' views are, from the Prime Minister to myself, as our vote will only be the same as the residents throughout my constituency and beyond.

"We all have a vote on this issue and it will be decided by the public who participate. I'd genuinely like to hear constituents' views on this long-standing issue and look forward to meeting many of them over the weekend.”

Mr Wood will be at Townsend Place, Kingswinford, on Friday February 19 between 11am and 1pm and in Brierley Hill High Street on Saturday February 20 between 11am and 1pm.
