THE ever-popular Sport Relief Mile which returns to Dudley this weekend has been welcomed by the borough’s physical activity bosses.

Taking place at the same time as hundreds of events around the country, Dudley’s charity mile will be held at 11.30am on Sunday (March 20) at the Dell Stadium in Brierley Hill.

The run, where competitors can also complete three and six mile courses – at a noon start time, will pass through the Dell Recreation Ground and the Brockmoor nature reserve.

People are already signing up to take part in the Sainsbury’s sponsored event to raise money for those living in the poorest communities.

The leading figures behind let’s get – the borough-wide physical activity and nutrition campaign and programme – are urging residents to take part.

Dean Hill, programme manager, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Dudley is everyone’s opportunity to be physically active for a good cause.

“All ages and abilities, old and young, beginner to elite athlete, can take part and feel proud of themselves on this special day.”

Half of the money raised by the public will be spent in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference overseas.

Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “It is encouraging to know that the people of Dudley borough are again taking up the challenge and are signing up for the Sport Relief Mile.

“It doesn’t matter how fit we are because if we can’t run the mile, we can jog or walk it. It really is the taking part that counts.”
