A BRIERLEY Hill charity which has been running in the town for almost 44 years is set to benefit from a donation from a Stourbridge pub.

James Doughty, general manager of The Old White Horse in Norton, was on the hunt for a charity that provides support for local people which his staff and customers could get behind.

They were eventually put into contact with the Brierley Hill Samaritans and have since donated more than £600 to the charity’s work.

James said: “When I fully realised the range of emotional support volunteers provide for individuals in distress or despair, including those who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, I was only too pleased to do our bit to help supplement the annual cost £20,000 it takes to run the branch.

“By having a collecting tin in our premises we have been able to contribute over £600 in the past three years.”

Brierley Hill Samaritans is a charity in its own right and does not receiving any direct funding, meaning members are always on the look-out for organisations, businesses or individuals for financial support.

Tony Mackay, a member of the fundraising team at Brierley Hill Samaritans, said: “We are really indebted to James, his staff and customers for donating money to our branch and take the opportunity to say a huge thank you.

“To have raised over £600 is brilliant and we look forward to continuing our links with the Old White Horse.”
