BRIERLEY Hill law firm staff took over the reins of a Stourbridge charity shop as part of their recent fundraising activities.

Staff at Higgs & Sons were also able to raise £2,700 for Scope at a charity auction which included prizes such as a holiday in Portugal, a trip in an Aston Martin DB9 and a ‘Come Dine With Me’ gourmet experience.

Among the more unique bids on offer at the auction were a three-hour roller skating lesson, a personal shopper for the afternoon and the chance to have three lawyers come and make over your garden.

Hannah Nicholls, a solicitor in the family team who helped to organise the auction, said: “We held several events in support of Scope. The Promise Auction, which ran online over several weeks, saw colleagues make some generous bids for the incredible lots on offer.”

The Waterfront Business Park-based firm also arranged a pancake sale and a dress down day where staff were encouraged to wear a hat at work.

Higgs’ rounded off its fundraising activities by taking over the Stourbridge Scope shop for the day, donating items and encouraging local shoppers to come and take advantage of the bargains on offer.

Claire Langford, a partner in Higgs’ clinical negligence department, said: “It has been fantastic being able to organise these activities for Scope. As well as fundraising, they have enabled us to help raise the profile of the charity and the important work they do throughout the Black Country.

“From my own experience working with families whose children have been affected by cerebral palsy, we understand the vital service Scope provides. We work closely with them to provide support and information to families who may be unsure or anxious following a diagnosis.

“Working jointly in this way enables families to see that receiving a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, or indeed any other disability does not mean their children cannot lead extremely rewarding and fulfilling lives.”
