A STOURBRIDGE mum who has a rare, incurable lung disease is organising a free family fun day to raise funds for the charity which supports her.

Leanne Lillywhite-Sutton will be holding the event on Saturday, September 10, at The Storehouse, in Brierley Hill to raise money for charity LAM Action, which helps women with Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) – a disorder that destroys lung tissue and leads to severe breathing problems.

The 33-year-old was diagnosed with LAM in 2013, after she suffered a double lung collapse when she and husband James were visiting a relative at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

She then had another lung collapse two days later and was sent for a CT scan which showed that she was suffering from the disease.

The cause of LAM is still unknown, although it is believed there could be a hormonal connection as it almost exclusively affects women of childbearing age. Around 250 women in the UK are believed to have it and can only be treated effectively by a lung transplant.

The Brierley Hill fun day, which Leanne has organised with the help of her friend Clare Moss, will feature attractions including a bouncy castle, face painting, games, a barbecue, a car wash, homemade cakes, a raffle, a tombola and stalls selling beauty products, ladies accessories and various other craft items.

Leanne, who has a one-year-old daughter called Isemay, said anyone is welcome to attend the fun day as she hopes to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

She said: β€œThe funds raised will be used to finance crucial research into LAM, which is a very rare lung condition and as a result does not attract the sort of research funding as conditions which are better known.”

The event will take place at the Albion Street-based community centre between 11am and 3pm.
