A FAMILY fun day organised by Brierley Hill legal trainees managed to raise almost £1,000 for the Stroke Association.

Higgs and Sons’ annual event was recently held at Dudley and Kingswinford Rugby Club, where a host of donations and fun activities secured £953.80 for the firm’s nominated charity of the year.

Events on the day included face painting, a bouncy castle, barbecue and bar, sports events throughout the day and a raffle. One of the highlights was the tug-of-war which brought out the competitive spirit of all those involved.

Emma Hadley, a trainee at the Waterfront-based law firm and one of the organisers, said: “We are delighted with how the day went, and thrilled to raise so much money for the Stroke Association.

“Everyone seemed to have a really good time, with the animal man proving a hit with the children while the home-made cake stall was very popular with everyone.

“We’d like to say a great big thank you to all those who came down to support us and helped to make it a day remember while raising funds for such a good cause.”

The Stroke Association campaigns to improve stroke care and support people to make the best possible recovery. It funds research into new treatments and ways to prevent stroke.

Tim Jones, head of the firm's corporate social responsibility programme ‘Community Matters’, said the trainees had done an excellent job.

He said: “The partnership with our chosen charity, the Stroke Association, is very important to us here at Higgs, as is our corporate social responsibility.

“By handing over the organisation of this family fun day to our trainees, it quickly instils in them the fundamental values of the firm and the qualities that we believe are essential in our colleagues.

“This year’s event was a resounding success and with a little bit of help from good weather we have managed to swell our fundraising total for the Stroke Association so far this year to almost £12,000.”
