BRIERLEY Hill youngsters got a reality check from police about how to cope with yobs and report crime.

Children from Brockmoor Primary School, Belle Isle, joined members of Dudley Police for an event to highlight anti social behaviour and test how they deal with real-life situations.

The Survive Alive event took place at Himley Hall for two weeks, from Monday June 21 to Friday July 2, when borough children, including the Brockmoor pupils, took part in role play scenarios with neighbourhood police officers.

Pc Helen Smith, from West Midlands Police, said: “Survive Alive provides an unusual and fun environment for learning which cannot be reproduced at a school site, the outdoor event also gives the children a memorable and active experience.

“It is also a great opportunity for officers to interact with large numbers of young people over the two week period to discuss issues around anti social behaviour.”

Youngsters played out a situation where officers posing as older boys tried to influence the group to act anti socially by writing graffiti and vandalising an abandoned car.

The students were given the chance to decide what to do, most chose to dial 999 and report the crime to police.

During Survive Alive, West Midlands Fire Service was also on hand to simulate a house fire, health services gave advice on the effects of alcohol on vision and balance while experts from Dudley Council highlighted key road safety messages.
