INFORMATION and advice for older people, their families and carers is now available at Brierley Hill’s new health and social care centre.

Dudley Council has teamed up with Age UK Dudley (formally Age Concern Dudley) to share facilities at the new centre on Venture Way to offer information and advice at daily drop-in sessions.

No appointments are necessary, people can just pop in between 10am and 4pm Monday to Thursday and between 10am and 2pm on Fridays.

Staff and volunteers from Age UK Dudley are hosting the sessions - and will be happy to talk to people about the practical services available to them such as gardening, foot care or day care, luncheon clubs or activities such as walking groups or exercise classes.

Information will also be available on other specialist organisations and how to access experts on important issues such as making a will or sorting out a tax or a benefits problem.

People are welcome to stop off and chat or just pick up information to take home.

Councillor Lesley Faulkner, Dudley’s cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “Bringing organisations together under one roof will help build greater links between services and develop the partnership between the council and Age UK.

“Older people now have another way of accessing information from people face-to-face in an informal atmosphere.”

Sally Huband, chief officer at Age UK, Dudley, said: “We are delighted to be part of this partnership and look forward to meeting the many people who will come and see us in the wonderful new centre in Brierley Hill.

“Our aim is to ensure people in Dudley make more of their later life and very often a little bit of information can help them achieve just that.

“It may just be something as simple as getting a concessionary bus pass that could make all the difference.”
