FANS of modern art can get their hands on one of the Brierley Hill Pony Trail sculptures, which are being auctioned off next week.

The auction, being held at The Copthorne Hotel in Brierley Hill on Monday October 4, marks the end of the first-ever pony trail project, which was organised by Dudley Performing Arts on behalf of the Brierley Hill Arts and Culture Group.

The trail, inspired by similar projects including King Bladud’s Pigs in Bath, Go Penguins in Liverpool, and the Ulm sparrow trail along the Danube, ran throughout the summer and featured 30 fibreglass ponies decorated by borough schools and colleges with help from professional artists.

Organiser Claire Starmer-Jones, from Dudley Performing Arts, said: “Interest in the ponies has been fantastic, with hundreds of people walking the trail and taking part in pony activities throughout the summer holidays.”

The auction, which starts at 6pm, will be hosted by Antiques Roadshow star Will Farmer of Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge.

It will last about an hour and will see 15 of the 30 ponies up for sale, with prices starting from £100 each.

All profits will be invested in future arts regeneration projects in the area.
